To receive services through Family Caregiver Support (including respite), caregivers must be unpaid and meet state and federal eligibility requirements.  This may include providing substantial care to a disabled person (18 years of age or older) or a young relative for whom they have assumed care.  For respite, caregivers must provide an average of at least 40 hours of care per week. Caregivers are usually family members—a spouse, an adult child, a parent caring for a disabled adult child, or a relative raising a child.
